Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: 22 August 2026

This policy covers refunds and cancellation for all of SmoothMock's paid plans: Full Access, Intensive, and Unlimited. We'd rather state the rule plainly and explain the reasoning behind it than bury it in vague language, which is why this covers more ground than a one-line policy would.

1. Try before you pay

Every account starts on the Free plan, no card required: unlimited Reading and Listening, one full graded Writing attempt a day, and two Speaking sessions a week, usable standalone or as part of a full mock. That's the trial. Use it to see the actual grading, the mistake breakdown, and the coach narrative before deciding whether Full Access, Intensive, or Unlimited is worth it to you.

Because every plan tier sits on top of that same free access, and because module caps reset monthly rather than being a one-time allotment you could exhaust before deciding, we treat a paid subscription as a decision made with full information, not a blind purchase.

2. No refunds

Once a payment for Full Access, Intensive, or Unlimited is processed, it is final. We don't offer refunds for:

  • Change of mind after subscribing.
  • Partial or unused time in a billing cycle after you cancel.
  • Not using your plan's Speaking or Writing allowance as much as you expected to in a given month.
  • Unused Speaking or Writing attempts at the end of a billing cycle; caps don't roll over and don't convert to a refund or credit.
  • Dissatisfaction with a specific grading report or mock attempt. Attempts aren't billed individually, so there's nothing to refund per attempt.
  • Being flagged or throttled under the fair-use policy on Unlimited (see our Terms of Service); fair-use review is a separate matter from billing, and standard no-refund terms still apply to the plan itself.
  • Not using paid-tier features like Drill Mode, Vocabulary Builder, weekly study plans, or the monthly deep-dive report.

This applies whether you're on your first billing cycle or your fiftieth, and regardless of which plan you're on.

3. Switching between paid plans

You can upgrade at any time; the new plan and its higher caps apply immediately, and you're billed the new plan's rate from your next cycle. You can downgrade at any time too, whether from Unlimited to Intensive, Intensive to Full Access, or either down to Free; a downgrade takes effect from your next billing cycle, and you keep your current plan's access until then. Switching plans, in either direction, doesn't trigger a partial refund or credit for the difference in price.

4. The one exception: billing errors

If you were charged twice for the same billing period, charged after you'd already cancelled, charged the wrong plan amount because of a system error on our end, or charged in the wrong currency due to a processing error, that's a billing mistake, not a refund request, and we'll correct it. Email nishant@smoothmock.com with your account email and the transaction details, and we'll sort it out.

This exception is narrow on purpose: it covers our system charging you incorrectly, not a legitimate charge you'd simply rather not have paid.

5. Cancelling your subscription

You can cancel a paid plan at any time from your account's billing settings. Cancellation stops future renewal charges. You keep full access to your current plan, including its module caps and features, until the end of the billing period you already paid for; it does not trigger a refund for that period.

If a renewal charge fails, for example due to an expired card, a short grace period may apply before your account automatically reverts to Free, giving you a chance to update your payment method without losing access immediately.

After cancellation, or after reverting to Free, your account moves to Free-tier limits going forward. Your past reports, mistake taxonomy history, Vocabulary Builder deck, and progress tracking all stay attached to your account; you just lose active access to paid-tier features and higher caps until you resubscribe.

6. Chargebacks

If something about a charge looks wrong, email us before disputing it with your bank or card issuer. It's almost always faster to resolve directly, and it avoids an unnecessary dispute over what might just be a misunderstanding about the billing cycle or plan you're on.

A chargeback filed against a legitimate charge, one that matches your plan, billing cycle, and the terms you agreed to at signup, can result in your account being suspended while the dispute is resolved with your bank. This isn't a punishment; it's a standard consequence of a payment being reversed outside our system, since it leaves us unable to verify the charge was actually contested in good faith until the dispute concludes.

7. Questions

Any question about a specific charge, plan change, or this policy: nishant@smoothmock.com. A real person reads and responds to it.
