IELTS exam fee, by country

British Council and IDP don't share a single price list. Each one sets its own fee, in the local currency of each country, and changes it whenever it wants to. This is why the same test costs a fixed ₹19,000 in India, where IDP is now the only one in charge, but in Pakistan the price is different depending on which one of them you book with. There's no single price for the IELTS test. It depends on the country you're in, who's providing the test, and what type of test you're taking. That's why we built this page to show the price for each country, instead of just giving one number.

Whatever the price is in your country, it only pays for one attempt at the test. British Council and IDP don't give any discount if you need to take the test again. If you don't get the score you need for your university or visa, you'll have to pay the price again to take the test. Sometimes you can retake just one part of the test if that's the only part you didn't do well on, but you won't get a discount on the whole test. Most people who have to retake the test don't fail because they're not good at English. They fail because they're not used to the test itself. The test has a listening part you can only hear once, a writing part where you have to type an essay on a computer in 40 minutes, and a speaking part where you have to answer questions.
